three books?
This final discussion question is all about you (sort of). You are not required to respond to other postings, though feel free to do so if you like.
You may have been asked to write something like this before, but it's always fun (depending on what you think "fun" is).
At the end of the 1960 film version of H.G. Wells's The Time Machine the hero takes three books into the future to help the Eloi rebuild their civilization, but we are never told which three books. In Station Eleven the preservation and power of print (and other forms of communication) are a key topic running throughout the book--this is how civilization is maintained. It is likely how the electricity is re-discovered in the far-off town in the book. Now here is the question:
What three books would you take to help rebuild a world that has been shattered like the post-plague world of Station Eleven? Give actual titles. Why wuold you select these three? How would they help you rebuild (or preserve) what is important?
If possible, point to some specific examples (document/quote/describe/share pictures etc.), maybe something like this:
Y.K. Chen's Tai-Chi Ch'uan: It's Effects & Practical Applications will allow me to keep fit physically, mentally, and spiritually. "The postures can also be employed in giving and resisting attacks" (Chen 3).
Then I would say some more stuff about it and move on to my second book :)
Note: there are no "right" or "wrong" choices here, but consider how some choices may turn out. The Prophet is influenced by three books: The Bible and two volumes of a comic book called Station Eleven. That did not work out too well.
Remember!
