Normally 10 points max can be earned with your Post, and the other 10 can be earned with a minimum of two substantive responses to other items on the board.. This week will be a little different
hellos and play
This week you are going over course materials and familiarizing yourself with the class. I want you to poke around on the Discussion Board as well, and so this low-stakes, free-form "discussion" is more about you introducing yourself, about you being introduced to the board, and about you sharing your first writing assignment (the Annie Lamott exercise from Lecture 1; you did read Lecture 1 early in the week, right?). This requires little (no?) thought, but it does require you to look closely and describe in exact detail a very small area. Be sure you have also read "Pencil Rack" in the Week 1 Readings folder on Canvas; it is an example of what the Annie Lamott exercise looks like.
For this discussion you do not have to respond to other students, but you are definitely welcome (and encouraged) to.
This Post has three parts:
First, in a couple of sentences, introduce yourself (you might want to let us know a little bit about your background, your goals, your thoughts (fears?) about the course--whatever you feel you want to share).
Then, well, play, experiment, try out the board. You should you try to at least do the following:
Try some of the text editing features (changing size and text effects and so on).
See if you can copy/paste a picture of two from the internet; keep in mind some pictures on the internet are copy protected and cannot be copied/pasted, so you might need to poke around. Pick one of your favorite subjects; search it on Google; select the Images tab, and poke around. Do be mindful of others, and do not post anything clearly offensive (cute is much safer). So, for example, if you love Sunrio anime, you might put up a picture of Aggretsuko. Dodger fan? How 'bout a picture of Don Drysdale?
See if you can embed a YouTube video, maybe a Minute Science thingy.
Try to attach a file (bottom left of the message box)...try a .jpg or a Word doc (it might even be your Step 3 below).
Try to have some fun with this :)
Now share your Annie Lamott exercise. If it is broad, general, abstract and NOT detailed, exact, concrete, it will get some (not all) credit. This exercise in looking closely and observing/recording is important in this class. The more items and the more exact the better.
You can either copy/paste that exercise onto the board or attach the file as a Word .docx or a .pdf. Copying/Pasting is easier for us to read, but the choice is yours :)
NOTE: You might number the three sections, put headers in front of each section, just separate them with blank lines; that choice is up to you as well.
ADDITIONAL NOTE: Partial DQs will get partial credit.
YET ANOTHER NOTE: Normally late Posts earn no credit, but if you Post late during what would normally be the Reply period (so after midnight Friday but before 11:59 p.m. Sunday), you will get partial credit as well.
